Happy New Year’s Eve! As 2015 draws to a close, I can’t help but reflect on all of the many memories I have made over the past 364 days. Our dog Kya passed away, our newest dog Cannon joined our family, we celebrated our one-year anniversary on a Caribbean cruise, we finished college at College of the Ozarks, Duncan was accepted into two medical schools, and there were countless other challenges and fun times!
I cannot wait to see what 2016 has in store. We will celebrate our second year of marriage, Duncan will begin medical school, and other than those things, I really have no idea what this year will look like. When I was brainstorming a resolution or goal for the coming year, nothing came to my mind right away, especially because of all the unknowns. The more I thought about it, the more I realized no matter how many unknowns there are in this new year, I do know for a fact that God will walk with me through every minute of every day and that He has a plan for my life and the coming year.
I have decided to choose a Bible verse to focus on each month in 2016. There are a few theme verses sparked my desire to do this:
Joshua 1:7-9 “7 Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. 8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
In order to be truly successful, we must meditate on the Word of God. We cannot know God or how to move forward in life without reading and knowing the Bible. Joshua was appointed to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land after the death of Moses and needed God’s direction, encouragement, and guidance; the same Truth God spoke to Joshua applies to us: we must meditate on the Word of God and be careful to obey everything written in it.
1 John 2:3-6 “3 We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. 4 Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. 5 But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: 6 Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.”
When we know Jesus and are changed by Him, we keep His commands, and in order to know His commands, we must read His Word!
Here are some simple ways I have found that help me meditate on the Word daily:
– Setting a reminder in my phone for each morning with the Bible verse
-Changing your phone lock screen to a picture of the verse
-Writing verses on index cards (then carrying them around in my purse, posting them around the house, etc.)
-Writing the verse with a dry erase marker on my mirror
-Bible verse memory box (I’ll post a DIY later on how to make the memory box!)
I hope everyone has a wonderful New Year’s Eve and a Happy New Year!
